Description and Location

Lake Manze, Selous Game Reserve Tent at Lake Manze

The camp nestles between two parts of Lake Manze, so there is usually a cooling breeze.

The Manager is Richard Jones (from UK) assisted by Sarah Gigli (Italy), Leonard Mhande, (Tanzania) and George Chambika (Tanzania)
together with a team of over 50 staff including guides, drivers, chefs, waiters and Masaai askaris.

The camp is located in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa and is situated on the shores of Lake Manze.
During the one hour transit to the camp which can be reached from Siwandu airstrip, one is introduced to the beautiful plains of Selous and its assorted birds and wildlife.
The Lake Manze area is one of the richest for game in the entire Selous, both in the dry and wet seasons.

There is a cool and shady thatched lodge with a dining area and a sitting area, overlooking the lake.

On arrival from the airstrip, you will be greeted by managers and guides, and taken through the camp to your tent.

Masaai askaris will guide you between your tent and the lodge, especially at night time, as there is always game around.

The camp maintains simplicity – there are no extra frills here. Though the result isn't luxurious, it is certainly exciting; you really do feel like you are out in the wilderness.
This feeling is enhanced by the camp's position on the floodplain of Lake Manze.

Animals really do come down to drink here – including elephants which use the old, well-worn elephant trail which runs around the lake and right in front of the camp.

The tented rooms are raised up slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the floodplain and the lake.
These mounds are covered in vegetation, and feel quite natural, and each one has been sited under its own cluster of shady doum palm trees.

Lunch is a friendly, casual affair, and there is often game wandering by.

Lake Manze dining: this takes place in the thatched dining area in the daytime, and outside under the stars at night, with a campfire and Maasai to guard you.

Located on the banks of the lake, guests get a chance to observe families of hippos, sunbathing crocodiles, plentiful elephants, herons and much more.
Game Safaris and Boat Safaris are included in the excursions offered as part of the daily activities.

Getting there:

Flights are available twice a day from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar and once daily from Arusha, Manyara and Ruaha with Coastal Aviation, to Siwandu Airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve.

Road access via Kibiti or Morogoro.
